Everything you need to know about Snap Map

Snapchat recently unveiled their latest feature to their app – a worldwide map that allows you to see your friend’s exact location (not stalker friendly at all!).

Whether your friends are visiting the other side of the world in Australia, or you have family living just down the road, with a simple pinch of the Snapchat home screen you can see your Snap Chat friend’s location and when they were last active on the app.

This feature is currently available to all Snapchat users, but you can choose to opt out in ‘Ghost Mode’ if you don’t want anyone to find you (or see what you’re up to!).

To activate the Ghost Mode feature, simply pinch the centre of your Snapchat home screen to access the Snap Map, click the top right settings option and enable Ghost Mode. But don’t panic, all Snapchat users will be in Ghost Mode until they choose to deactivate it.

There are benefits to the latest feature even if you opt to be in Ghost Mode. The Snap Map shows popular events from around the world that you can now be a part of with a simple click. Whether you’re missing out on Leeds Festival or a Beyoncé concert, Snap Map enables you to click on popular events and see other users Snapchat videos or pictures from the event – who needs to pay £200 to go sit in a field at a festival anyway?

Even if there isn’t an event on, Snap Map indicates high levels of Snapchat activity by illuminating the Map in red, orange or yellow. Similarly to the popular events feature, you can click on these areas and see Snapchat videos or pictures from the area. Cities are usually constantly illuminated due to higher populations and levels of Snapchat activity!

If you’re new to Snapchat and Snap Map, you’re probably wondering why you have the outline of a person representing your location. You can change this to look like you or anything you like, simply download the free app ‘Bitmoji’ and create your own little avatar. Once you’ve downloaded the app and created your avatar, your Snapchat friends will be able to differentiate you from other people on the Snap Map.

So now you know a little bit more about what Snap Map does, you may be asking – what’s the point in the latest feature? It seems the aim of Snap Map is to bring its users and their experiences closer together, even when they are miles apart.
