A café is set to bowl open its doors in a new venue.

Darlington’s Diner is beginning a new venture as the Café on the Green at Darlington’s Indoor Bowls Club, where it will be serving up delicious home cooked recipes.

After trading in the Victorian Market for over 17 years, the new and additional café offers an opportunity to branch out and support a piece of Darlington’s heritage.

The new proprietor of the café, which has previously been closed for two years, Alex Blackham, said: “It’s always been a priority of mine to support local sites such as the Indoor Bowling Club as they’ve been a prestigious venue for over 30 years.

“I’m passionate about supporting local businesses like myself and that’s why I only source my produce from regional businesses.

“We look forward to welcoming anyone who wants the chance to try their hand at bowls or fancies a unique dining experience of being able to watch a game of traditional indoor bowls while you dine.”

Opening from 10am daily, Café on the Green will be open to club members and the public to serve up affordable and freshly prepared daily specials, sandwiches, teas and coffees, smaller portions, children’s and much more.

Club members will now have the additional service of the 50 seat capacity café, as well as the fully licensed bar that is already on site.

With over 20 years’ experience in catering, Alex is looking to serve traditional Sunday dinners in the café in the future.

The café is expected to be popular with members in cooler months, as outdoor bowls in other venues such as South Park is no longer a possibility.
